About:  Chateau de Carbonneau is a family run estate comprising 50 hectares of wines meticulously tended by Wilfrid and Jacquie Franc de Ferriere since 1992. During the 19th and early 20th centuries both red and sweet white wines were produced at the Chateau de Carbonneau. At the time, the Grand Larousse considered Chateau de Carbonneau to be among the better producers of Bordeaux. After the economic crisis of the 1930 however the grapes harvested at Carbonneau were vinified and aged at the newly-founded Cave Cooperative de Gensac. It was not until 1996 that Wilfried and Jacquie Franc de Ferriere re-established Chateau de Carbonneau in its own right and the wines are now vinified and aged in the Chateau with the assistance of the oenological laboratory of Soussac.

Tasting Notes:    This is 80% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Merlot and is only produced on a very small scale in certain vintages when the conditions are perfect.  Only the best hand picked grapes are aged in 100% French oak barrels which gives to exceptional fruit concentrations and smooth silky tannins.  The wine offers a complex bouquet of ripe bramble fruit and blackcurrant, well balanced by the structure that develops with the oak. The wine is full bodied and the finish is warm and lingering, with notes of light tobacco, liquorice and mocha.  A brilliant wine all round.
