Tasting Notes Extremely fresh and aromatic, with tropical and citrus fruit character. It is light-bodied, with crispy fresh lemony and citric notes, fruity balance, excellent definition and fine acidity.
Casa Santos Lima has been a family business for four generations and was founded by Joaquim Santos Lima who by the turn of 19th century was amongst the greatest producers and exporters of Portuguese wines. Since 1990, Jose Oliveira da Silva, the founder's great grandson assumed a full time commitment to wine activity. He replanted a big part of the vines and modernized all the productive structure. With the goal of producing quality grapes to make and bottle his own quality wine, the company worked hard to develop a multi-brand strategy.
Casa Santos Lima owns a group of several estates covering an area of 280ha and is located in the Alenquer county, the most prestigious DOC appellation within the Lisboa (Estremadura) region.
The vineyards produce excellent quality grapes and the wines have a unique regional character well known for the concentration of fruit and colour in the wines. These characteristics are possible not just due to the soil and climatic conditions but also because of the “Sustainable agriculture" (use of non-toxic products and limited fertilization). The frequent press references, national and internationally, about this company and its wines is a testimony of the quality of the work and the products presented under the Casa Santos Lima brand.
In 2004 and 2005 it has been the most awarded producer with the biggest number of “Best Buys" in Portugal. The quality of their wines has been consistently confirmed by numerous awards granted, both nationally and internationally by the most prestigious wine challenges as in Vintage_2012 when was ranked No.1 by Wine Spectator, “Wineries for Value" from Portugal. With this, Wine Spectator confirms the consistency of our wines in terms of “value for money". Vinification Pressing after total de-stemming with exclusive use of free run juice. Fermentation temperature control at 16°C - 18°C.
