Country:  New Zealand
Region:  Hawkes Bay

Grape varieites:  Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot

About:   Originally a Pastoral station established by John Chambers in 1854, his third son Bernard returned from France in 1892 with the idea of planting vines on the North facing hills of the estate. The winery was built in the stables and the story began. The property was sold in 1919, but only when Buck and Morris families purchased it in 1974 did the brand come to life. The Estate wines are exclusively made from their own vineyards and represent the best quality wines found in Hawkes bay. The Estate is a member of the Sustainable Winegrowing New Zealand programme and is constantly assessing ways to improve its environmental, social and economic sustainability, winning awards for its efforts along the way.

The Hawkes Bay region is found on the East side of North Island, just south of Gisbourne. It has a unique range of slopes and plains all offering different climates enabling a variety of different grapes to be grown and wine styles to be produced. Soils are mainly gravels, silt and sands left behind from the three main rivers that historically flowed through the region.

Tasting Notes:  This deep red silky wine bursts with ripe raspberry, blackberry and black plum aromas laced with hint of chocolate. The aromatic layers are reflected in flavour and develop into rich fruits, sandalwood, vanilla and tobacco. Powerful finish.
