Country:  France
Region:  Beaujolais Villages

Grape variety:  Gamay

About:  Beaujolais is considered to be part of the Burgundy region but the soils, dominant grape variety and climate are very different, resulting in a very different style of wine.  Beaujolais Village is just a cut above the norm!

Half the region is now turned over to producing Beaujolais Nouveau. Specifically made for early drinking, there are strict rules about when it can and cannot be sold.  It cannot be released to the consumer until after midnight of the third Wednesday in November after the vintage, that is the morning of the third Thursday and cannot be sold by growers or merchangs after the flollowing 31 August.

Tasting Notes:  This year's Beaujolais Nouveau is rather nice, light and fruity, full of raspberry and cherry fruits and with light, smooth tannins.  It does have a good structure though to balance all that fruit, another good year for the Beaujolais Nouveau!
