Domaine Mur-Mur-Ium, Mont Ventoux, Southern Rhone
Share
This is one of our favourite wine producers!
Situated on a very special area, the Southern Rhone is home to some iconic wines such as Chateauneuf-du-Pape, Gigondas and Vaqueyras, not to mention being bordered on the south side by beautiful Provence.
Mur-Mur-Ium (meaning 'The Buzzing Song of Bees') is managed by the Pichon family, with Marc having taken over in 2008 and created the incredible Mur-Mur-Ium wines we know today, it is now run by his sister Veronique after his sad passing.
Situated on the slopes of Mont Ventoux, at the centre of the region, it benefits from a Mediterranean climate with long, hot summers and the Mistral, a wind that moves through the whole region, helping to keep disease, damp and pests at bay and helping many vineyards, including Mur-Mur-ium to achieve organic status.
The terroir is varied with some white clay, limestone, rocky and sandy soil possessing qualities that guarantee good drainage.
The main grapes they specialise in are Grenache Noir, Syrah, Marselan - strong powerful red grapes with intense flavour. For white grapes they focus on Roussanne, Vermentino, Viognier and Clairette - aromatic grapes with freshness and colour.
