Boschendal The Pavillion Red, hailing from the renowned Stellenbosch region of South Africa, is a delightful blend that offers a vibrant expression of fruit and spice. This approachable red wine makes a perfect everyday companion for casual meals or simply enjoying a glass on its own. Let's delve into its tasting profile and explore the perfect food pairings to elevate your experience.

Tasting Notes:

  • Appearance: Boschendal The Pavillion Red pours a captivating ruby red colour, hinting at its medium-bodied character.
  • Nose: Aromas of ripe red fruit take centre stage, with notes of juicy blackcurrant, plum, and a touch of red cherry. Subtle hints of spice, like black pepper and cinnamon, add complexity and a touch of warmth.
  • Palate: The initial impression on the palate is a burst of juicy red fruit flavours that mirror the nose. The tannins are gentle and well-integrated, providing a smooth and approachable mouthfeel. Hints of vanilla and baking spice emerge on the mid-palate, leading to a clean and refreshing finish.

Food Pairing Suggestions:

Boschendal The Pavillion Red's versatility lends itself to a variety of dishes:

  • Light Meat Dishes: Pair it with grilled chicken, roasted lamb burgers, or a juicy steak with a peppery sauce. The wine's acidity cuts through the richness of the meat, while the fruit flavours complement the savoury notes.
  • Pasta Dishes: Enjoy it with tomato-based pasta like a classic Bolognese or vegetarian options with roasted vegetables and herbs. The wine's acidity balances the richness of the sauce and enhances the flavours of the dish.
  • Cheese Platter: Complement a selection of semi-hard cheeses like Gouda, Cheddar, or Gruyère. The wine's fruitiness cuts through the creaminess of the cheese, creating a delightful contrast.
  • Pizzas: Whether it's a classic Margherita or a vegetarian option with roasted vegetables, The Pavillion Red pairs well with the savoury flavours of pizza dough and toppings.

About Boschendal The Pavillion Red

This wine is a blend of Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon, two of the most celebrated red grape varieties. The grapes are sourced from select vineyards on the slopes of the Simonsberg Mountain, as well as Stellenbosch and Agter Paarl regions. The wine undergoes fermentation in stainless steel tanks before a portion is matured in French oak hogsheads for added complexity.
