About:   In 1973 Hermann Seifried (Austrian Born) and his wife Agnes (New Zealand Born) started their winery, purchasing 2 ha land in Moutere Valley between Nelson and Motueka. They planted the vineyards themselves on the Northward sloping clay loam soils. These Pioneering winemakers, using classic European varieties without knowing whether they would succeed, have shown the diversity of wine that can be produced in New Zealand. The vines planted in 1976 of Riesling, Sylvaner, Chardonnay, Muller-Thurgau and Refosco were all made into wine they sold to friends and small mail order which has grown to a full size family operation today.
Nelson historically known for horticulture, hops, tobacco and apples is surrounded by mountains that shelter the vineyards, with the Tasman Sea to the North which brings moderate temperatures throughout the year. Nelson is the sunshine capital of New Zealand with 2400 hours of sunshine a year which enables vines to reach optimum ripeness and opportunities for sweet wine production, whilst retaining acidity in the grapes thanks to the diurnal temperature variant and cooling sea breezes
Large stones in the Brightwater vineyard help retain the heat and bring the grapes to full ripeness. 2019 was an exceptional year and the Cabernet Franc was so rewarding Seifried decided to make a single varietal wine. The wine had been aged in French oak barriques and bottled in 2020.
Tasting Notes:  Inky red with ripe tannin and a rich fruit palate. Aromas of blueberry, cracked pepper follow on the palate with a long and lingering finish.
