General Wine at Blackdown Ridge 2021!

General Wine at Blackdown Ridge 2021!

If you're in need of a lovely trip out I can highly recommend a visit to the Blackdown Ridge Vineyard.  Just 20 minutes from our shop in Liphook, this stunning vineyard planted in 2010 is just what the doctor ordered.

Blackdown Ridge is a truly beautiful location, planted in 2010 it now boasts over 16,000 vines made up of 6 different grape varieties including the main champagne grapes - Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier and has just starting to reap the benefits of 2020's fantastic vintage results.

We even met the resident herd of sheep, led by Lucinda's own ewe Baarbara! The sheep are an integral part of the viticulture as they are on site to 'mow' the grass between the vines during the cooler months of the year.

TASTING TIME!

It is true what they say, that English wine has improved massively over the last few years and this is very apparent when tasting the Blackdown wines.

Primordia Brut is a classic blend of champagne grapes and does not disappoint, perfectly balanced with a long finish, hints of apples, citrus and brioche it is very reasonably priced at £24.99.

The Sauvignon Blanc was crisp and fresh with a flavours of green bell peppers and gooseberries, closest comparison would be a New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc.

The red wine, a Triomphe was very impressive, notes of cherries and spice, medium bodied with balanced tannins and acidity it was surprisingly good!

We also tasted a still rose and sparkling rose, both primarily Pinot Noir and both crisp and dry despite the darker shade of pink on the the still wine.  Definitely worth a go if you want to try something from close by and are looking for a change from a  Provence style.
