The Grouse & Ale - Winner of Best Gastro Pub in the South East Award

The General Wine Company would like to congratulate The Grouse & Ale for winning Best Gastropub 2010 in the South EastAs their wine supplier The General Wine Company would like to congratulate the Grouse & Ale in High Wycombe for winning the Best Gastro Pub in the South East Award.

The Grouse and Ale in Lane End has been recognised at one of the best gastro pubs in the country and came top in the south east.

The pub in the High Street has been chosen by the Great British Pub Awards and will attend a glittering awards ceremony in London on September 9. The awards are split into 16 different categories and six other pubs join the Grouse and Ale in the gastro pub regional section. A national winner will be picked out at the ceremony at The Hilton in Park Lane.

Joy Roberts, who owns the pub with Carlos Maidana, says: “There are obviously so many great places to eat in the area we were just really thrilled we had been chosen in the area this year.”

She said they are always developing their menu to “come up with something new and creative” and they try and source their food locally “as much as possible.” Ms Roberts added: “Obviously when it is in season, being in the area we are, we like to offer game wherever possible, which is partly the reason we are called the Grouse and Ale. “Grouse is not only to signify food but to show we are in an area where game is prevalent and readily available during the season.” She said during the summer time business is variable but she believes food makes a big difference in running a successful pub. She added: “It is is what is expected now. When people go to the pub a food offering is expected. It needs to be home produced local food. Food out of a packet and cooked in a microwave really isn't acceptable any more. “The expectation is good quality and good value.”
